The church is cutted out/partly built in the central part of the Udabno cave monastery. It has a large single-nave chapel to the north dated to the 10th century, and connected with the church by several apertures; this space was later converted to a diaconicon. Numerous incised inscriptions have been preserved on the walls of the church.
