It has been accepted that the church of Akura was built in 855 with financial support of St. Ilarion Kartveli. A three-line donor inscription is carved out on travertine stone under the window on the east façade of the church: Ⴂ(ႠႬ)ႳႱ(ႥႤႬႤ)Ⴌ Ⴓ(ႴႠႪ)Ⴍ ႱႳ|ႪႱ(Ⴀ) ႢႨႭႰႢႨႱ | ႻႤႧ(Ⴀ)Ⴑ(Ⴀ) – გ(ან)უს(ვენე)ნ უ(ფალ)ო სულს(ა) გიორგის ძეთ(ა)ს(ა).
