T\u2019elovanis jvarpatiosani [Early Medieval Georgian Monumental Painting. Telovani Church of the Holy Cross]<\/em> (Tbilisi, 2008), 20).<\/p>\n\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Description<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The original painting decorated only the chancel; the painting is distributed in two registres.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6>Chancel<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A three-figure composition of <em>Christ in Majesty<\/em> is depicted in the conch. It shows enthroned Christ flanked by kneeling angels. Presently, the extant images are only fragmentary. A line of stylized floral ornament bordered on two sides runs around the edge of the conch. Compositions of the conch and the lower registre are separated with a coiled band-like ornament.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the second registre<strong>,<\/strong> on both sides of the window, the starry background represents a host of holy apostles and the face of the Savior encircled in a medallion depicted in the center (<strong>\u10bc<\/strong><strong>(\u10ab\u10a8\u10a3\u10a0)<\/strong><strong>\u10c2<\/strong><strong> | [\u10ae\u10a8]<\/strong><strong>\u10b0\u10a8<\/strong> <strong>\u10b6<\/strong><strong>(<\/strong><strong>\u10ab\u10b0<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong><strong>\u10a7<\/strong><strong>[\u10a8\u10b1\u10a0] \u2013<\/strong> <strong>Holy Face of God. <\/strong>St. Peter, St. Andrew (<strong>[<\/strong><strong>\u10bc<\/strong><strong>(\u10ab\u10a8\u10a3\u10a0)<\/strong><strong>\u10c2<\/strong><strong>] <\/strong><strong>| [-]|[-]|<\/strong><strong>\u10a3<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10b0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10a8<\/strong><strong>|[-] <\/strong>\u2013 <strong>Saint Andrew<\/strong>), presumably, St. James, St. Simeon are depicted right of the window. Due to the damaged layer of the painting, it is impossible to identify the fifth figure, while only small fragments have survived from the sixth one. Left of Christ\u2019s image is St. Paul <strong>([<\/strong><strong>\u10bc<\/strong><strong>(\u10ab\u10a8\u10a3\u10a0)<\/strong><strong>\u10c2<\/strong><strong>]<\/strong><strong> | <\/strong><strong>\u10ae<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10a0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10a5<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10aa<\/strong><strong>| [<\/strong><strong>\u10a4<\/strong><strong>] \u2013 <\/strong><strong>Saint Paul<\/strong>) and St. Bartholomew (<strong>[<\/strong><strong>\u10bc<\/strong><strong>(\u10ab\u10a8\u10a3\u10a0)<\/strong><strong>\u10c2<\/strong><strong>]<\/strong><strong> | <\/strong><strong>\u10a1<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10a0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10b0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10a7<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10aa<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>[\u10ad]<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10ab<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u10a4<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> <strong>Saint Bartholomew<\/strong>); only fragments have survived from the third and the fourth figures, while the fifth and the sixth ones are completely obliterated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The second registre is confined with a double red line from below.
